About Fritz Duffy

The prints on display here are inspired by work I produced during the 1980’s. I threw caution to the wind and acted quite spontaneously in an abstract manner, the results being large highly colourful thickly painted oil canvases.

These paintings were exhibited at the Vortex gallery in Stoke Newington, the Royal Academy Summer Show, Greenwich Theatre Gallery, The Warwick Arts Trust in Pimlico and the Air Gallery in central London.

Joan Miro, John Hoyland, Bert Irvin and A. R. Penck, artists I liked at the time, had been influences during this period. I have treated screenprinting as an abstract fine artist would starting with random, chaotic shapes and colours and gradually adding more refined and considered elements to arrive at a final composition. I have created stencils that explore both opaqueness and transparency by adjusting the amount of acrylic medium used. Also, by mixing hard edged shapes with more freeform brushed edges.

I hope the results are both joyful and life affirming to the viewer!
